Our Story

Hi friends! I’m Lindsay — the founder of TWC — and I am a nutritional scientist with an MSc in nutrition + human health, and am studying to be a naturopathic doctor. I have a huge passion for product development in the wellness space and have picked up practical experience along the way with Linds and Katie and Papillex that I am so so grateful for.

In summer 2021, I dreamed up a product + developed a business plan for the Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA) naturopathic business pitch competition. I ended up being a finalist, presenting my business plan at the 2021 virtual NMSA conference, and winning some grant money. Then I got concussed…

For the next year, I was forced to slow down due to persisting concussive symptoms, and take a leave of absence mid-way through my naturopathic doctoral degree. I came to realize that I was constantly putting my creative project ideas aside in the name of pursuing them “when I’m done school” or “when I’m a naturopath”…

During my recovery, I was able to continue with my product idea with the help of a beloved mentor at the University of Guelph (my alma mater), a super organized + motivated 4th year undergrad student, and my supportive sibling Max.

In the summer of 2022, at the height of my concussion recovery, I managed a booth at the Orillia Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market selling smoody. I gained valuable feedback, repeat customers, and insight into face-to-face sales. Knowing that the farmers’ market season is short, I knew I wanted to move towards e-commerce and follow in the footsteps of my mentor at Papillex. So here we are today!

Our Mission

If you know me, you know I am passionate about conscious consumerism – that is, being mindful when you shop and armed with information so that you can make the best purchasing decisions. When it comes to the wellness space, I really want to empower people to see through the green washing, misleading marketing, and inflated pricing so that they can confidently spend their money on the most effective products for their health + wellbeing.

A huge problem I see in the supplement industry is a product containing MANY different herbs, but using very LITTLE of them. My masters degree in nutraceutical sciences has taught me that many herbs have now been studied for a wide variety of therapeutic uses at SPECIFIC doses. A sprinkle of *this* and a touch of *that* may not offer the results you want.

So why do companies do this? Because it’s marketable! Wouldn’t you rather take a dozen magical adaptogenic herbs than only one?

I created The Wellish Company to offer function-forward products for you — the conscious consumer. Sure, we love cute packaging and an aesthetic Instagram page as much as the next gal, but we put as much thought into the product inside the packaging as we do to marketing it.
